The Scientific Committee’s Carte Blanche: From trenches to avenues of Participatory Democracy
While many citizen participation experiences are showcased (participatory budgets, urban agriculture, land ownership initiatives, local currencies, and more), others in contrast are “invisible and hidden” by democratic institutions.
The first, being more institutionalised and numerous around the world, can be seen as documented and acknowledged "avenues" of participatory democracy. The second can be regarded as "trenches": also numerous, but more underground, not well-known and barely documented. The idea would be to create an inaugural dialogue for discussion of "exceptional" experiences which are seen less often in the area of citizen participation.
